How to Submit a case

Instructions for uploading images using Purview Viva

(Download PDF: Instructions for Uploading Images)

Vet Imaging Specialists has teamed with Purview to simplify and streamline uploading and storage of images, as well as the reporting process and storage/accessibility of reports.

There are two ways to upload DICOM images. We strongly recommend using Option 2, as it has additional benefits for your practice.

After the images are uploaded, you may close the webpage.

In order for us to provide a complete report, please e-mail relevant patient signalment and history to info@vetimagingspecialists.com. If any non-DICOM files need to be attached (for example KUSA registration papers, HD/ED owner and veterinarian declaration papers, relevant lab work or proof of payments), please also send these via e-mail.

We receive a notification that your case has been uploaded and report on your case within 24- 48 hours. If you have not heard from us in 48 hours, please contact us at there may have been an upload or transmission/e-mail error.

An email will be sent to your clinic with the report attached as a PDF. In the event that you require a copy of the report or need to retrieve the images, you can e-mail us at info@vetimagingspecialists.com, and we will be able to provide you with both.

option 1

The first way is the easiest and most straightforward and is easier for clinics not using teleradiology very often. Images can be uploaded directly to the following link (which is also on our website):

https://uploader.vivacloud.io/client/pointe

This will direct you to the following page, where DICOM images can be added into the box or added as folders/from disks. Please be careful to not accidentally upload your entire database.

The uploader does not say when the upload is finished, but will display the patient details of the images that were uploaded as follows:

option 2

The second way takes a little more time to get started but is essential for clinics sending several studies a month, or those who would like their access to their studies at any time.

It requires a filter to be created for your clinic (so that you can have access to previous studies and reports, but only for your clinic, thus ensuring privacy). This is thus an effective way of storage of these documents, which will remain on our site for 5 years.

Purview requires a test study of imaging (DICOM images) to properly enable this feature and then will set this up for you and provide support if needed. You can supply a single small sized file, such as a single radiograph and upload via this link, where you can drop the files into the page (see screenshot):

If you are making use of an off-site human hospital for MRIs or CTs, please notify us of this so we can ensure they adjust the filter to allow you to see these cases. The filter of institution or referring veterinarian must be on all future studies to properly view your studies.

Now, you can request to have a filter created by following the link:

https://request.purview.net/machform/view.php?id=48677 or looking at the PDF on getting started.

  • For “Doctor/Practice you wish to receive reports/reads from”, please indicate Pointe Teleradiology/Vet Imaging Specialists is your teleradiologist.
  • It is recommended that each clinic only use one login for all users, rather than each vet using their own.

To upload or view images and to access old reports, you will sign into your own Purview page.

You will then have access to your studies and reports (PDF), as in the following screenshot (we will still e-mail a copy of the report to your chosen e-mail address when it is ready).

Please be sure to click on the “Reported” cases link to view finished cases.

To upload a case, use the “Upload” button:

You will then be taken to the following screen:

You can drag DICOM images directly into the box, or click on the “Folders and Disks” or “Zip files” tabs. You will see a blue “status bar” moving from left to right as the image upload process.

The uploader does not say when the upload is finished, but will display the patient details of the images that were uploaded as follows:

After the images are uploaded, you may close the page. You can check that the files have correctly uploaded by looking at your worklist under “Open Cases”.

To add patient signalment, history and other pertinent information, please use the “Study Notes” function to add these (on the far right of the work list). Non-DICOM files (such as PDFs, example KUSA registration papers, HD/ED owner and veterinarian declaration papers, relevant lab work or proof of payments) can be added using the “Attachments” button.

Attachments (paperclip) and Study Notes (file) icons.

We will report on your case within 24 to 48 hours – an e-mail will be generated from Purview with the link for your report, which is also now available on your work-list (You’ve Received a New Medical Report, from VivA Report System).

If you have not heard from us in 48 hours, please contact us at there may have been an upload or transmission/e-mail error.

The page also allows the following additional functions:

  • A search function (searching of your patients by name or ID)
  • Viewing the study in an online viewer, capable of performing measurements and other usual image manipulation/processing.
  • Sharing the study or report with others (specialist colleagues or owners) using a link or a link embedded in an email.
  • Downloading the DICOM files or writing them to a CD.
